Ed Kelly, a voice actor, received a call from his friend Greg Roy one day. Greg told Ed that the cast of The Simpsons was threatening to walk because they wanted to be paid $8m dollars per year instead of $4m. Greg suggested that Ed send a demo to the producers as a backup plan in case the actors left the bargaining table. Ed agreed to have a demo ready in case the deal fell through. In the end, the deal was actually signed two months earlier and the whole situation had been a publicity stunt. Through this process, Ed discovered that he had the talent to voice a number of Simpsons characters that he had not known he was capable of before.
